The Okanagan Game Developers Association (OGDA) has kicked off 2025 with a series of successful events and initiatives, demonstrating its commitment to fostering growth and collaboration within the local game development community.
The year began with our second year hosting the Global Game Jam, which proved to be a resounding success with over 60 participants and 13 games created. The overwhelming response from the community led to a fully booked event with a waitlist, highlighting the strong demand for such opportunities within the Okanagan region.
Building on this momentum, the OGDA has observed a steady increase in community engagement, which is expected to drive new projects and future game jams. The association is already planning its next jam, to be hosted directly by OGDA this summer. The organizing committee is actively exploring potential partnerships and themes to make the event even more engaging and impactful.
In addition to the successful game jams, the OGDA has seen increased attendance at its social events and launched the “Game of the Month” initiative, which showcases and supports Canadian-made indie games. These efforts have been instrumental in connecting the local community and fostering a sense of camaraderie among game developers in the Okanagan.
The OGDA is committed to sharing the stories and achievements of its members. Stay tuned for upcoming interviews with global game jam participants, where they will discuss their experiences and provide links to the games they developed. These interviews will offer valuable insights into the creative process and the collaborative spirit that drives the Okanagan game development scene.
As the OGDA looks ahead to the rest of 2025, it remains dedicated to supporting and empowering game developers in the Okanagan region. The association encourages everyone to stay informed about upcoming events, workshops, and other initiatives, and to actively participate in the vibrant and growing game development community. By working together, the OGDA and its members can continue to push the boundaries of creativity and innovation, and establish the Okanagan as a hub for game development excellence.
